I love to read and I have many favorite genres. Mysteries, Psychological Thrillers, Historical Fiction and I am also the owner of a zillion cookbooks. I have my favorite characters in each genre too. Its funny though all of the male heros all look the same in my mind. Tall, thin and blonde. Maybe its Jon, who knows. Anyway, here are some of my favorite authors and a few of the most memorable books they have written…….according to me.
Alan Folsom
The Day After Tomorrow, Day of Confession, The Exile, The Hadrian Memorandum and The Machiavelli Covenant. Sadly these are his only books as he passed away in May of 2014. The Day After Tomorrow is possibly my favorite all time novel. When it was recommended to us our friend said “Are you the kind of reader who occasionally looks to see how many pages there are left in the book”? I said “No” he said “Good because if you happen to read the last paragraph it will spoil the whole novel.” Very interesting. I took it to heart and was glad I did. What a thrill ride it was. (This book is in no way related to The Day After Tomorrow Movie.)
Nelson DeMille
Now this guy, is really awesome. I also receive his newsletters. He writes how I speak and love to read. He is snarky and irreverant and extremely witty and tells a great story. I have read every one of his novels except his latest I think. The first Nelson DeMille I read was The Gold Coast. I was hooked. This is his first John Sutter Book and written in 1990. His first book was written in 1978 and it was By the Rivers of Babylon. My all time favorite Nelson DeMille book was called “The Charm School.” It is an espionage thriller set in Moscow and what is so scary is that it could be true. Think The Americans television show.
One of his books was made into a movie ‘The General’s Daughter’ starring John Travolta. Another one of DeMille’s characters is John Corey who is the central person of Plum Island , The Lion’s Game and Up Country.
Steve Berry
Steve is an Historical Fiction writer. His Hero is Cotton Malone. He is a former Justice Department Agent and with the beautiful Cassiopia Vitt by his side he takes on deadly terrorists and con men unraveling along the way some of histories most legendary mysteries. I think two of my favorite Steve Berry books were The Charlemagne Pursuit and The Paris Vendetta. Cotton Malone Book rights have just been purchased to have its own TV Series. David Baldacci
David Baldacci is a well known author for his crime novels. One of his most memorable books Absolute Power was made into a film in 1997 starring Clint Eastwood. My favorite book of his was Total Control. My husband started reading it on a business trip on the plane. Well, coincidentally in the book the plane crashes! David has many character series as well. There is Amos Decker who has a eidetic memory, Will Robie, The Camel Club Series and in another series, a female character Atlee Pine. http://www.davidbaldacci.com
Kate Morton
And now for a complete change of pace, let me introduce Kate Morton. She is an Australian born Author who is a master at writing about kept secrets and the passage of time, weaving the past and present together. Her first book was The House at Riverton, which I read and throughly enjoyed. I think the one I liked the most though was The Secret Keeper. Many times when I am reading a book or watching TV I think I have it all figured out…….like who done it! The Secret Keeper really GOT me and that is what makes for a really good story.
