Our furbabies Thelma and Louise are two very unique little girls. They are sisters. Our Yellow Lab Annie Bear Robinson died in September of 2013. I thought I just couldn’t lose another dog, just too painful, but what was more painful is to live without a dog or two in our life to love and spoil. Enter Thelma and Louise. I found a picture on Facebook of Thelma, who was one of a litter of 14 puppies. Her mother Sarah was a pure bred Black Labrador and her father was a Border Collie who lived down the street who fancied Sarah. Well, when I saw the picture of Thelma I fell in love. She had a cute little white chin and white back paws. We decided to go meet the puppies. My husband Jon, picked out one of Thelma’s siblings to also become a part of our family…She would end up being Louise. Sarah’s owners decided to put fingernail polish on the puppies tails because they all looked so much alike. We made our choices and a few weeks later we went back to pick up our girls. We wanted to name them Thelma and Louise but we opened up a conversation on Facebook,a contest if you will, for our friends to help name the puppies. We still won, but second place went to our friends The Kiley’s who picked Roxie and Velma from “Chicago”. Their prize was dinner at our house the day the girls came home.
The first home we brought them too had a pool. We thought, Labradors love water, they will enjoy this. Nope, afraid of water. Afraid of plastic bags, the gas burner coming on, any noise of any kind and pretty much everything. They love to sleep in our Cal-King bed with us and are the best cuddlers ever. I can’t imagine this stage in our lives without them.
They enjoy camping and going on hikes and new adventures. We really feel as though they are an extension of us, especially since our own children are grown and we are Grandparents now. (Rozlin and Lucas, our grandchildren, will be introduced in another segment)
Stay tuned for the many adventures of Thelma and Louise.
Trust us when we tell you we will never give them the keys to our car !!!
