Camping in Half Moon Bay and Jerk Chicken

Half Moon Bay holds a special place in my heart. That is where Jon proposed to me back in 1991. There is a beautiful beach and a rugged shore line. You can ride horses and go on lengthy walks. The one drawback? The wind! It can make it very tough to put up a tent in gale force winds. This particular trip the wind broke the main pole in our tent so it did not go up at all the first night. Fortunately our friends have an RV and Jon slept on the floor with Thelma, Louise and Brando (their Husky) and I slept on their couch. The next day we drove to Palo Alto and bought a new tent. Our old tent was a 10 person tent and the new one is a 12 person tent with a screened in Lanai. Yes, there are just the two of us and our two Labs but we love it and at some point when our Grandchildren are a little older we intend to bring them along.

For our arrival snacks I made Provoleta (see previous post) and we ate inside. Jon made Jerk Chicken which we made at home and then just heated it in Half Moon Bay. Here are some picks and the recipe. Enjoy.

The next day the “group” walked over to the area we go to every year for lunch. It is a lenghty walk and I opted to drive over later and meet them. I went over to the old town area of Half Moon Bay and did some window shopping. It is a very cute little town. As it turned out they were glad I drove and they opted for a ride back to the campground……4 adults and 3 dogs in our Mazda. Cozy but fun! This is where we had lunch. It is a very popular restaurant that sits out on the marina and the Pacific Ocean. Jon and Dee Dee had the fish and chips that apparently was very good, Jason a crab sandwich and I had the deep fried clams. Yum.

The next day we took a beautiful walk on the beach to where dogs are allowed. I just love the sound of the water and we sat down for a few minutes and remembered the proposal of those many years ago. Something about the ocean heals my soul and I always feel closer to my Dad when I am looking at the water.

Once back at camp our friends from the Bay area came over for the afternoon. We got to meet their adorable new puppy Olive, who used to be called Violet but now is identifying as Olive. Will and Art you guys are the best. They also vacationed with us in Portugal two years ago. It is nice to be able to be with your friends now since we have all been dually vaccinated.
