Our fourth book was Susan Wigg’s Beekeeper’s Ball. It was chosen for a number of reasons. One of our member’s nicknames is Wiggs, she and her husband are part time Bee Keepers and it had some very good recipes, (with honey) included in this book. I will embed a link to the recipes in this book. My favorite was Hummingbird Cake with Burnt Butter Frosting. Oh yes, died and gone to heaven.
Some of the recipes our “Wiggs” used were for Honey Butter Fried Chicken, Honey Lavender Lemonade and Summer Fruit with Honey Dressing.
In this story Chef Isabel Johansen is not only planning the menu for her upcoming sister’s wedding she is restoring Bella Vista, the lush gardens and orchards of her Grandfather’s estate. She is restoring the property to start a cooking school. As she toils the earth of the vineyard she is also uncovering many family secrets. Some secrets going back to World War II as we learn when a reporter shows up on the property to interview her Grandfather. This is a richly layered story just like the delicious Humming Bird cake.
Side note: This is the second book in a series set at the Bella Vista Orchard.
ENJOY and BON APPETIT
