Miss Cecily’s Recipes for Exceptional Ladies

Joanne, Dee Dee, Lynne, Me (Debbie) and Babs (Extraordinary Ladies)

Our book for April 2023 was Miss Cecily’s Recipes for Extraordinary Ladies. It was a book that Jeanine recommended (not pictured above). We absolutely loved it. It was a warm, wonderful feel-good story that had you in Foodie Heaven. The cover of this book itself just drew you in. While the story focus is on Kate as she navigates unemployment and relationship issues, she finds Cecily at an assisted living home with her crotchety attitude and razor sharp wit. Life is for the living and Cecily’s stories message that beautifully. Kate and Cecily are decades apart in age but both have a love of food and cooking. The recipes come from Cecily’s grandmother who wrote a book entitled Thoughts for Food. It is hard to find but I was successful in finding it on a thrift shop online. Overall this is a charming story about making meaningful life choices and the power of friendship. This book had me laughing and crying at times too.

Our dishes for the day were Rosa Mexicana Guacamole, Spaghetti Carbonara, Caprese Salad, Tamale Pie and Chocolate Souffle.

The Recipes for three of the dishes are below:
