Lillie Silva knew life as an empty nester would be hard after her only child left for college, but when her husband abruptly dumps her for another woman just as her son leaves, her world comes crashing down. Our club meeting was hosted by the fabulous Joanne in her backyard and using her newly built Pergola. It was a beautiful fall day and the food and ladies were “delicious”.

Within the book, Lillie Silva whose heritage is Portuguese, writes about her favorite comfort food. For our luncheon, I made Bola de Carne, which was her favorite. Babs made a Coconut cake which was also mentioned in the book, Lynne made Linguine with clams, Dee Dee made Clam chowder, Jeanine brought a green salad and Joanne made a yummy cocktail. Robyn brought a whole rotisserie chicken. In the book Lillie is so distraught that she buys a whole chicken at the grocery store and goes back to her car in the parking lot and devours the whole thing. (I see nothing wrong with that) !!! Now it has been a few months since this meeting and I may have gotten the dishes wrong……so sue me! I do remember it was a very good and wonderful luncheon and discussion. I love this group of ladies, have I mentioned that before, and am looking forward to our next meeting which is this coming Saturday. We will be discussing the book “Love & Saffron by Kim Fay.
