The title of the latest Book our club read was “On a Night of a Thousand Stars”, by Andrea Yaryura Clark. Jeanine hosted at her home and the theme was Argentinian food.
We all learned a lot about Argentina from this novel. There was a War in the 1970’s there and it was called the Dirty War. The Dirty War in Argentina refers to an eight-year period, between 1976 and 1983, in which a right-wing government purged Argentina of left-wing “subversives”. The Dirty War is defined by violent tactics, repression, and cover-up.
In this story the daughter learns of her father’s interactions in his college days at a party and she is determined to find out the truth. The book speaks to relationships, morality and identity during the this brutal time period in Argentina. As far as our group goes, it was a mixed bag of reviews. I happened to like it but we were also traveling in Buenos Aires at the time I was reading it. I think it is still worth a read.
Our menu was:
Chicken Empanadas, Provoleta, Mini-Tacos and Chorizo Sandwiches and Chimichurri.

I picked up some fans for the ladies while in Buenos Aires and that is what we are holding there in the photo. This is a very fun and special group of ladies…..we review the book, eat fantastic foods and laugh until our sides hurt. Our next book is a memoir by Chef Jacques Pepin.
