In November of 2023, we cruised the Mexican Riviera with Mike and Jeanine Kiley. These two lovely people have been our theatre buddies for 20 + years. We knew in advance there would be lots of laughs and new side jokes and we were not disappointed.
Our ports of call were Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan and La Paz. We originally were going to stop in Puerto Vallarta but it was changed to La Paz. As it turned out La Paz was having a big race from La Paz to Ensenada. The Baja 1000. The town was packed but we managed to walk the Malacon and have a great lunch over looking the bay. (More on that later)
When we get together with the Kileys we play games and we all love Trivia. On board Holland America there are at least two team trivia games a day and we hit them all. One time Jon and I couldn’t attend and that was when Mike and Jeanine won ! (Maybe we were holding them back.)
One of the activities on the ship was a wine and cheese tasting class. It was so elegant and tasty too. Mike didn’t go to this one so Jeanine and Jon and I ate and drank his portion.
Cabo San Lucas
We walked around Cabo San Lucas and did some shopping and went to our favorite restaurant that our neice Kristi and her husband Jeff recommended years ago. Maro’s fish House. https://restaurantsnapshot.com/maroshrimphouse/
Mazatlan
Jon and I and Mike walked around Mazatlan, following the blue line of course, and ended up in the market place. We then hiked over to the Malacon and watched the cliff drivers and soaked up the sun. Speaking of the Sun, Jeanine had a massage on board and decided she’d sit Mazatlan out. The sun drained her the day before and we caught up with her later. We took a cab back into town and had one of the best Mexican lunches we’d ever had……. then back to the ship to relax and get ready to sail on to La Paz.
La Paz
As I had mentioned before there was a race going on the day we arrived in La Paz. This was the starting line. Even though it was crowded you could still get a feel for what this port of call could have in store for you. Here are some pictures of La Paz.
So one night on every Holland America Cruise is “Orange Night”. Orange is the National color of the Netherlands and they celebrate on board with a big party. H’orderves, cocktails, live bands and games….the only condition…..you must wear Orange. It is a lot of fun and a tradition I look forward to. On this evening we went to the show early, and Mike was entertaining his lovely wife Jeanine with some humor. “Priceless”.

And another fabulous cruise comes to a close, but we made some fantastic memories on the sea and in Mexico.
Vaya Con Dios.
