Our ninth Books N Cooks Club meeting was at the home of JoAnne and Dean Blount. Our book was “The Queens of Animation” by Nathalia Holt.
It is the untold story of the women who transformed the World of Disney and made cinematic history. Out hosts opted to create the menu after The Blue Bayou restaurant in Disneyland. We had Disney’s Blue Bayou Chicken Florentine, Mickey Mouse Toasts with Shrimp Remoulade sauce, Hungry Bear Picnic Salad, a fruit platter and Beignets for Dessert. We started our luncheon with Mint Juleps.
The book followed the lives and careers of the women who pioneered animation at Disney studios in a male dominated industry. Mary Blair and Rhetta Scott were two of the animators that blazed the trail for female artists that work today. They fought for recognition of their talent and to even have their name in the credits at the end of the film. It’s a very good book and it sparked conversations about equality in the workforce, blatant abuse in the treatment of women, the me too movement, and the changing roles of women today and women in Disney films…….i.e…. Princesses who don’t need a Prince Charming to be happy, sometimes it’s a sister.

It is not misspelled, that is the name of the site. It is lengthy and wordy but the end result is good.
Thank you again to the author Nathalia Holt and Judy Gelman of the Book Club Cookbook for the Galley Match.
