Our second book for our Books N Cooks Club was Not Fade Away by Rebecca Alexander. One of our members knew Rebecca’s mother. Her brother is Peter Alexander of NBC News.
This is an inspiring memoir of a woman who is slowly losing her sight and her hearing and continuing to live life to its fullest potential. Our club member Barbara Ann Cechetti Ravetti or Babs fashioned blindfolds for us to wear to mimic the loss of vision that Rebecca was experiencing.
It was a very interesting exercise in empathy. None of us know what we would do in the face of such devastation. She rose to the challenge and greeted every day as if it were a gift. It is a gripping story offering hope and motivation to live each day to its fullest.
Babs served Italian food and Mimosas. She even used her antique bar cart. It was a lovely day and vastly different from our first club meeting.

Side note: Babs and I are not sure when we met but we think it was a show that we didn’t do……we both are actresses in theatre. She was also the maid of honor in our wedding. Love ya Babs!
